Whats new on the 2013 Ford Explorer

There were some minor changes to the Explorer for 2012 to 2013. Here is a list of whats new:

Model Lineup

• Model lineup includes:
– Explorer (Base)
– XLT
– Sport
– Limited

Performance and Handling

and only available on Sport model
• 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine is Flex Fuel capable (FFV) in Federal Emissions or Cross Border states; available only with a Federal Emissions system
• Final drive ratios changed on 3.5L V6 models:
– FWD changed from 3.16:1 to 3.39:1
– 4WD changed from 3.39:1 to 3.65:1
– 4WD with 3.5L EcoBoost V6 added 3.16:1
• P265/45ZR20 summer compound tires(1) available on Sport (available Fall 2012)

(1) Ford does not recommend using summer tires when temperatures drop to approximately 40°F or below (depending on tire wear and environmental conditions) or in snow/ice conditions. If the vehicle must be driven in these conditions, Ford recommends using all-season or snow tires.

Safety and Security
• Front-passenger knee airbag standard on all models

Comfort and Convenience

• 2nd-row 60/40 bench seat includes fore/aft adjustment of 40 section (standard)
• 2nd-row bucket seats available on XLT in Equipment Group 202A and Sport
• 2nd-row console available on XLT in Equipment Group 202A (requires 2nd-row bucket seats)
• Auto high beams added to high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on Limited in Equipment Groups 302A and 303A
• Heated steering wheel added to Limited in Equipment Groups 301A, 302A and 303A
• Lane-Keeping System with lane-keeping alert and lane-keeping aid added to Limited in Equipment Groups 302A and 303A
• Power tilt/telescoping steering column added to Limited in Equipment Groups 301A, 302A and 303A

Design and Styling

• Sport model added
• New exterior colors:
– Deep Impact Blue Metallic (J4)
– Green Gem Metallic (W6)
– Kodiak Brown Metallic (J1)
– Oxford White (YZ)
– Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat (RR)
• Deleted exterior colors:
– Dark Blue Pearl Metallic
– Red Candy Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
– White Suede
