Intelligent 4WD System in 2013 Ford Escape
There are many different types of 4 wheel drive systems on vehicles now a days (and many ways to spell and abbreviate 4 wheel drive like 4WD, 4x4, Four-Wheel Drive, four-by-four, AWD, all-wheel drive ) , but the 2013 Ford Escape features one of Ford's most innovative 4WD systems yet. Here is a little about how it works:
• The all-new Ford-engineered 4WD system utilizes software that preemptively reassesses road conditions every 16 milliseconds – about 20 times faster than it takes to blink an eye – and adjusts the power split from front wheels to back to give drivers a precise blend of handling and traction at all times
• The all-new system splits torque produced by the powertrain between the front and rear axles for a key advantage: seamless power transfers that help keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended path, helping to minimize understeer or oversteer conditions
• The system measures actual directional input from wheel sensors, lateral acceleration and yaw rates, and compares it to driver responses via the steering wheel and accelerator, and then prompts the system to react accordingly
• During snowy and wet conditions that cause excess wheelslip, the intelligent “torque on demand” 4WD system on Escape can send up to 100% of available drivetrain power to the front or rear axles, and determines the power distribution by measuring wheel speed differences in correlation with driver steering input and requested powertrain torque
• In constant-speed highway conditions, Escape operates in 2WD mode, providing 100% of the power to the front wheels. The 4WD controller will determine how much torque should be sent to the front and rear axles, but it goes one step further than most stability control systems – it anticipates how much torque will be required by analyzing up to 25 inputs every 16 milliseconds
• At speeds below approximately 20 mph, the system provides high levels of torque to the rear axle with a focus on traction maximization
• At speeds above approximately 20 mph, the system is tuned for balanced torque distribution to improve driving feel, handling, cornering and response
• Available on SE, SEL and Titanium
ENGINEERING INSIGHT:
Intelligent 4WD System - How It Works
The system measures:
• All four wheel speeds to determine if there is a speed difference between the front and rear wheels
• Actual speed and driver-requested torque to maximize low-speed traction
• Steering wheel angle to determine the driver’s intended direction
• Lateral acceleration to determine the appropriate torque distribution while cornering
• Yaw rate to determine the vehicle’s rotation about its vertical axis
Key Driver Benefits
• Understeer and oversteer can be controlled more quickly
• Torque steer is virtually eliminated
• Activates more intelligently than previous-generation automatic systems
• Improves vehicle dynamics, ride and handling

The End Is Nigh!
So this is it huh? The end of the world. Seems like there would be more fanfare or fireworks or something. From what I'm told I guess I am expected to be here at work tomorrow too... I thought I would take a moment and debate with you reasons that tomorrow very well could be the end of the world. For the record, I intend this to be light-hearted in the wake of so many bad things that have actually transpired in recent weeks... Without further ado, here are Trevor's reasons that the world will end tomorrow.
1.) The Mayan calendar ends tomorrow, 12/21/2011. Who am I to question the knowledge of a race so advanced they sacrificed virgins and used technologically advanced tools also known as stones? It should also be noted that while the Mayan's could see hundreds of years into the future, they couldn't foresee the coming of the Spanish Conquistadors and their near apocalyptic diseases.
2.) Dick Clark died this year! How are we supposed to ring in the new year without Dick Clark? We're not supposed to, that's how.
3.) Death of the Twinkie. The company that makes the abnormally yellow cream filled abomination went bankrupt. A company south of the boarder made a late attempt to purchase the confectionery concoction but seems as though the deal fell through. Surely the world can not continue without Ho Ho's!
4.) Nicki Minaj. 'Nuff said.
5.) George Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise to Disney! Who wants to face a world that may one day see Jar Jar Binx get his own movie? The Ewoks will be mass marketed to death. It will be like Teddy Ruxpin version 2.0
6.) Tomorrow is the winter solstice which means it is the beginning of winter. It also means that tomorrow is the shortest day of the year. So let me get this right. As winter starts the world is supposed to end, and it's going to be the shortest day of the year. What a ripoff!
What is your evidence that tomorrow is the end of the world? We would love to hear!

The Best Pre-Owned Vehicles For Your Money
On Thursday, December 6th Forbes.com released an article titled "The best used cars for your money". In the article Forbes places an emphasis on value and dependability in vehicles that often have a somewhat less expensive retail than their competition. Two pre-owned Ford vehicles made the list, with the Ford taking the title for "Large Pickup" and the Ford Fusion taking top honors in the competitive "Midsized Car" segment.
Large Pickup: Ford F-150
Ford’s popular full-size truck was redesigned for 2009 with bolder styling and added capabilities, and you’ll find used examples in myriad cab styles and cargo bed sizes to suit a wide range of needs. Power comes from a choice of a 320-horsepower 5.4-liter V8 engine (recommended) or two less-powerful 4.6-liter V8s. While the 2009 Toyota Tundra beats out the F-150 in the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, the Ford takes top marks in initial quality and design/performance rankings, and Kelley Blue Book estimates its retail prices will be considerably lower than the Toyota as well. However, since trucks are typically driven hard and are often close to being abused in the course of their workman-like duties, it’s imperative you have any pickup under your consideration given a full checkup by a good mechanic.
Midsize Car: Ford Fusion
This is essentially the non-luxury version of the Lincoln MKZ, which can be found with a 2.3-liter 160-horsepower four-cylinder engine and either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission or a more-willing 3.0-liter 221-horsepower V6 and a six-speed automatic. It remains a roomy and comfortable ride and can be found with myriad high-tech options. The Fusion gets top marks for reliability from J.D. Power and an above average rating for design/performance; this not only beats the Toyota Camry in both regards, Kelley Blue book estimates a 2009 Fusion will cost between $2,250 and over $4,000 less at retail value than will a comparable Toyota Camry, depending on the version.
Also making the list was the Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country. Stop by Ed Koehn Ford Lincoln Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Greenville and see our impressive selection of these pre-owned affordable values that are sure to help fill your needs.
