MyFord Touch / MyLincoln Touch software upgrade and update

As is common in the software business, Ford releases updates to make enhancements to programming, address compatibility issues and improve system performance. Many of the new enhancements reflect the voice-of-the-consumer, as engineers continuously listen carefully to daily users and respond to what would improve their experience with the system.
MyTouch Homescreen

New Phone Pairing Process

The original versions of the system required customers to type a 6-digit PIN into their phone to pair their Bluetooth
® device with SYNC. If customers mis-typed the PIN or the system timed out before the PIN could be entered, the phone wouldn’t pair successfully. To help alleviate this, the pairing process is much easier and even more automatic. The PIN is now automatically pushed to the phone and customers simply confi rm that the 6-digit PIN on the touch screen matches the 6-digit PIN on their phone. No more typing.

Phone Pairing

Here are the complete phone pairing instructions:
  1. Make sure the vehicle is in PARK and both your ignition and radio are turned ON.
  2. Touch Add Phone in the upper-left corner of the touch screen (highlighted in yellow). Find SYNC appears on the screen, and instructs you to begin the pairing process from your device.
  3. Make sure that Bluetooth is set to On and your mobile phone is in the proper mode.
Search for Devices on your mobile phone until your phone finds SYNC
Then, select SYNC and the 6-digit PIN will appear on your device.

Note: If you are prompted to enter as PIN on your device, it does not support Secure Sample Pairing. To pair, enter the PIN displayed on the touch screen. Skip step 4.

4.   When prompted on your phone's display, confirm that the PIN provided by SYNC matches the PIN displayed on your mobile phone.
5.   The display will indicate when the paring is successful.

New Clock Screen Settings

Clock Settings

Customers can now choose to have just the clock at the top of the screen or display both the clock and outside air temperature. You may also adjust setting for Auto Time Zone Update along with a clear label underneath the time for your local time zone. The Daylight Saving Time feature has been removed.

Those with the optional Navigation System can have the system automatically set the time by selecting Reset Clock to GPS Time.

New Rear View Camera Operation

Rear View Camera

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires that all automakers put rear view cameras in all passenger vehicles by 2014 to help drivers see what is behind them. Along with this, federal regulators will also require that drivers cannot cancel the screen when backing up.

The rear view camera display appears when the gear is shifted into Reverse. From that screen, customers can Zoom In/Zoom Out, but cannot cancel it.

Navigation System Improvements

Navigation Screen Layout

Everything from screen design to new voice destination entry screens to a new SD Card improves the optional Navigation System. A new Menu button in the upper right provides quick access to: Navigation settings, View/edit destination entries, SiriusXM Travel Link, Guidance mute On/Off, Cancel Route.

Voice Destination Entry

When using voice to enter a destination, the screen can show what information the system has already captured, what is left to input and a quick guide for the voice commands available. As always, you are prompted along the way to provide all of the information necessary to set a destination.

Improved voice recognition for the one-shot destination entry searches for the city first, and then the street within the city, to improve accuracy and time to locate your destination.

New Preferred Route Settings

Preferred Route Settings
While you still have route choices for Fastest, Shortest or Eco Route, you now have the ability to save your preferred choice.

New Traffic Alert Notification Settings

Traffic Alert Notification Settings
If you live in notoriously high traffic areas and don't want to receive continuous alerts, you can now turn notifications off.

New SD Card Maps

New SD Card Maps
All Navigation System enhancements require the use of the latest A4 SD Card be used.

The 2013 Ford Focus ST Gets Some Love!

Racing video games have been around for a long time - in fact, automotive racing game go all the way back to 1974. The Need For Speed games began in 1994 and have since become the the most successful racing game series in the world. In fact, it is also one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. As of October 2009, over 100 million copies of games in the Need for Speed series have been sold. It has been such a cash-cow that there are even plans for a live action movie based on the series in early 2014.

The latest installment to the franchise, Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012), features many of the cars racing fans have come to love. For some of us, this is the closest we may ever get to being able to drive some of these cars. I, for one, am kind of glad... While racing a Lamborghini Gallardo through the streets in a game, I don't have to worry about the real-world wrecks or the police ruining my fun.

The TV ad for the newest Need For Speed Most Wanted has a few of the usual suspects measuring up against law enforcement vehicles in a wild-west sheriff vs outlaw style showdown. Just when tensions reach their peak an anti hero comes spinning through the mix. Enter the Ford Focus ST. Full of attitude and gusto the driver reaches out the window and displays the bird - the 'ol one finger salute. All cars immediately follow the wake of the ST with the law enforcement vehicles in tow.

It is a cool thing to see the Focus ST spinning through the street and drifting around turns, and I love how much love the creators of NFS are giving it. It really is a remarkable car. 2.0L EcoBoost engine that features direct injection and turbocharging. 6-speed manual transmission. Recaro seats... If you haven't seen one yet, come in today to see ours. The one in the came is a virtual clone of the one we have in stock.

Ford Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 31, 2012 – Ford employees and Ford Motor Company Fund are donating $50,000 to the American Red Cross and its chapters to assist with disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Flooding has been a major problem in many areas.

“Hurricane Sandy has had a devastating impact on many states,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “We know that the need for assistance is great, and we are pleased to partner with American Red Cross to help provide relief.”

This donation is part of Ford’s involvement in the 2012 Red Cross Disaster Responder Program. Under this program, a select group of companies pledge donations on an ongoing basis in advance of major disasters, which helps the Red Cross ensure an immediate response to meet the needs of those affected by disasters. Ford Motor Company has partnered with the American Red Cross for more than 30 years.

“The impact of Hurricane Sandy is widespread and the road to recovery will be long for many families in its path," said Roger Lowe, senior vice president of Communications for the American Red Cross. "We appreciate Ford Motor Company for its partnership with the Red Cross that helps us to respond immediately to the most critical needs.”

In the days and weeks to come, the Red Cross will work with emergency officials and other partners to help individuals and families get the help they need. Red Cross disaster relief workers already are operating shelters and feeding operations and organizing distribution of clean-up and other supplies. Damage assessment teams are helping determine the full scope of the damage and Red Cross health services and mental health workers are helping people cope with what they’ve seen and experienced.
